You can't change the whole world, but you can change somebody's world somewhere

HOPE worldwide Bolivia has developed and implemented initiatives to assist the country in building its health and social services for its citizens.

In 2009 HOPE worldwide Bolivia joined Hospital Arco Iris (HAI)/Foundation Arco Iris (FAI) in Bolivia in order to assist in meeting the numerous needs in the country. There are an estimated 30,000 children and orphans who live and/or work on the streets of La Paz. Hospital Arco Iris is a 100-bed charity teaching hospital that also provides through mobile medical units more than 75,000 free medical visits to the poor; with more than 60% for children.

The value of this charitable work is estimated to be over $ 1 million USD each year. Even working as a team, Hope worldwide Bolivia and FAI can’t continue to financially sustain this charitable work. In addition to funds raised by Celebration of Caring, HOPE worldwide Bolivia has opened Centro Medico Internacional, a for-profit ambulatory healthcare clinic, in order to create a sustainable social enterprise whose profits will help fund the future charitable work of Hospital Arco Iris and HOPE worldwide Bolivia.

HOPE worldwide Bolivia is also leveraging more than 50 years of healthcare experience to help Hospital Arco Iris become more profitable – through leadership development, nursing education, performance improvement, patient safety, culture change and many other initiatives. Finally, HOPE worldwide Bolivia’s medical division has developed a nursing assistant program that will introduce to Bolivia an additional level of nursing and help alleviate the overwhelming patient safety issues caused by a severe nursing shortage. The nursing program is specifically designed as an entry-level opportunity to enter into the healthcare profession for orphans and vulnerable children who complete high school.

HOPE worldwide Bolivia’s social services division works to mobilize teams of volunteers to help impoverished families throughout the year, sustaining a vulnerable children’s healthcare fund, opening and running a play room and a play therapy program for hospitalized children, as well as educating parents and caregivers about early childhood education. In addition, HOPE worldwide Bolivia provides food, clothing and volunteer support to impoverished families, families affected by disasters and children living in prisons with their parents.

Country Director, HOPE worldwide Bolivia

Dr. Kevin Broyles leads the HOPE worldwide Bolivia team and serves as the country’s medical director., and is also the lead medical professional at the Centro Medico Internacional Hope Clinic. The clinic serves one of La Paz’ most affluent communities and is the first step in creating a social enterprise where profits will fund and support the work in Bolivia’s vulnerable populations, including its children.
